Posted On 02 Feb 2018

Ecuadornews:

The Ministry of Foreign Trade presented the catalog “Ecuador Certificado” that contains the main organic products and with certifications of the national exportable offer.

The instrument that will allow the Ecuadorian offer to be identified at an international level includes sectors such as bananas, handicrafts, cocoa, coffee, cosmetics, flowers, fruits, liquors, textiles, garments,

products from the forestry sector, aquaculture, fishing, agroindustry and processed foods.

Ecuador is the third country in Latin America and the Caribbean to achieve the certificate of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM).

International entity that evaluates the general regulations to promote and regulate organic, ecological and biological production in Ecuador. According to the FAO, certified products present on average a price increase of 10% to 30% in relation to standard products, which favors the competitiveness of small and medium producers The holder of this state portfolio, mentioned that, for the first time, the country has a catalog of the Ecuadorian exportable offer of organic products and companies with certifications.

In addition, he mentioned that this organic certification “constitutes an important added value for the Ecuadorian exportable offer”. Products that have organic certifications have high demand in markets such as the European Union and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). In 2017, the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) reported that the General Regulation to promote and regulate the organic, ecological and biological production of Ecuador exceeded the equivalence evaluation to which it was subjected, in accordance with the Common Objectives and Requirements of the Organic Standards (COROS), and has been admitted to the IFOAM Family of Standards.
