Ecuador Proposed the Creation of a Criminal Court to UNASUR

Ecuador’s General Attorney, Galo Chiriboga, presented on Wednesday the project for the creation of a Criminal Court of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR for its Spanish acronym) that would deal with drug trafficking, corruption and other crimes in the region.
The project was presented at the thirteenth Specialized Reunion of Public Ministries of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur for its Spanish acronym), which is taking place in Buenos Aires, from Wednesday until Friday.
The initiative proposes a body formed by the general attorneys of the twelve countries members, plus a block General Attorney, to be appointed democratically.
The Court would have jurisdiction in Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Guyana, Paraguay, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela. (MZ)
