Ecuador proposes a cybersecurity protection law

The National Government will allocate $ 11 million to create mechanisms to protect the data of Ecuadorians.

The measure was announced on the morning of this Tuesday, September 17, 2019 after the leak of this type of information that occurred from an unsecured server (Elasticsearch) located in Miami (United States), owned by the Ecuadorian company Novaestrat SA

To secure the data and as part of the Ecuador Digital Project, the Minister of Telecommunications, Andres Michelena, announced on Tuesday, September 17 that the sensitive information of the state institutions will be housed in the data center of the National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT). The structure works since the end of 2017.

Following the leak, the authorities decided to advance the transfer of information and propose a maximum execution time of four to five months.

This Wednesday, September 18, 2019, the bill for data protection will be presented at the National Assembly and the official called on the Legislature to deal with it urgently.

He also said that the return of the filtered database will be required.
