Ecuador proposes the use of local products for fast food
After a meeting with the commercial sector and entrepreneurs, the Minister of Industries, Ramiro Gonzalez said that both the meat and potatoes used by fast food chains shall go through a process of import substitution; meaning that a part of what is now imported in the future can be produced in the country.
According to the Resolution 116 of the Foreign Trade Committee, it is stated that 293 subheadings presented a Certificate of Recognition (to check aspects of quality from the origin) to enter the country, by batch and product type.
“The idea of the measures is to first take care of the quality of the products that are sold in the market, that is fundamental. The second is to replace imports the more we can,” said Gonzalez.
At the meeting were representatives of franchises like Burger King, McDonald’s, Carl ‘s Jr., among others. A similar situation was presented regarding the plastic caps of bottles.
