Ecuador returns to eat crabs
The market Caraguay, located in the South of Guayaquil, returned yesterday to have a massive influx of people, following news that the fresh plates of crab would be on sale after a month of ban ordered by Ministerial Agreement No. 16 of February 3, 2004, that prohibits the capture, transport, possession and marketing of red crab (Ucides occidentalis) and blue (Cardisoma crassum).
This prohibition was carried out in order to protect the crustacean and their consumer because between August 15, and the previous Sunday, September 15, crustaceans were in stage of molt or change of carapace, emitting calcium oxalate, which makes them a toxic food.
Moreover, the direction of Control of fishery resources reported that its 70 fishing inspectors carried out surveillance operations in 24 provinces, located at strategic points at national level, but not reported if there were persons detained for not respecting the ban.
