Ecuador seized 5.3 tons of drugs in January 2015

Ecuador confiscated 5.3 tons of drugs in operations carried out in January in different areas of the territory, including the border with Colombia, said on February 2 the Ministry of Interior.
“So far this year a total of 5.3 tons were seized nationwide, of which 1.5 were part of the distribution network,” the entity said in a statement.
As part of the operations against drug trafficking, the Ecuadorian Armed Forces also seized 1.22 tons of marijuana, in the province of Esmeraldas.
In 2014 some 58 tons of drugs, primarily cocaine were seized.
