Ecuador Will Ask UNASUR for a Debate on Press Freedom Regulation
In the temporary headquarters of the Secretariat General of UNASUR in Quito, Ecuador’s Foreign Minister, Ricardo Patiño, stated yesterday that the local government intends to conduct a debate on the adoption of a law to regulate the content of the media in this country which is currently promoted by the ruling party in a National Assembly in the country.
The importance of the issue has to be part of a debate in the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), according to the bill, for simmilar regulations in the twelve member countries of the regional body.
Maria Emma Mejia, former Colombian foreign minister, said the topic has not yet been formally raised by President Rafael Correa to UNASUR, but because it is a political forum for excellence the topic could be booked anytime in the ssues agenda.
