Ecuador will export 1.5 million pounds of chicken meat

Ecuador will close this year exporting 1.5 million pounds of chicken meat to the Bahamas. Shipments are made by Avícola San Isidro (AVISID), installed in the Isidro Ayora canton, province of Guayas.

The export of chicken meat is achieved thanks to coordinated work between the public and private sectors.

The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Danilo Palacios, highlighted the contribution made by the aforementioned poultry company, as well as the joint work carried out by the poultry chain together with public sector entities linked to poultry farming: Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG ), Phyto and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency (Agrocalidad). 

“The only way to face these moments is by generating opportunities,” said Palacios, indicating that the country needs everyone’s support. He specified that for the agricultural productive sector, the MAG has the obligation to be a facilitator, since the country “has many opportunities .  ”

In Ecuador, each year the poultry sector produces approximately 480 thousand tons of chicken meat , and 3,507 million eggs, and generates around 300,000 direct jobs throughout the country. By 2031, poultry meat production is estimated to grow by 55%. 

The Minister congratulated the management carried out by the National Corporation of Poultry Farmers of Ecuador (CONAVE) and the producers to demonstrate that they can work in a coordinated manner with State institutions and strengthen poultry farming. 

Chicken production at the national level is concentrated in the provinces of Guayas with 22%; Pichincha 16%, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas 14%, El Oro 10%, Manabí 9% and Imbabura with 6%.

“To maintain the economic development of the poultry sector, vaccination against avian influenza has been essential. To date, 14.2 million birds have been vaccinated with the first dose,” highlighted Patricio Almeida, Executive Director of Agrocalidad . 

Currently, it is in the process of opening to Peru, and the sector has requested that markets with Tonga, in Oceania, as well as Saint Lucia and Dominica, in the Caribbean, be prioritized.

“We can offer the world a variety of products, it is only up to us; Only we Ecuadorians change our Ecuador ,” stated Palacios.
