President Guillermo Lasso and Foreign Minister Gustavo Manrique participated in the launch of Ecuador’s Pro Tempore Presidency of the XXIX Ibero-American Summit.

President Guillermo Lasso announced that Ecuador will promote innovation, inclusion and sustainability from the Pro Tempore Presidency (PPT) of the Ibero-American Summit, during this year.
According to the President, efforts will focus on the areas of social cohesion, knowledge and innovation towards sustainable development, connectivity and ecological transition.
And Foreign Minister Gustavo Manrique added that Ecuador assumes the “enormous challenge of leading regional integration,” despite the regional turn of governments to the left, in which President Lasso has been left alone.
Thus, Ecuador began its presidency on June 16, 2023. The President and Foreign Minister Gustavo celebrated the designation of the country and the opportunity that this forum represents, together with the Ibero-American Secretary General, the Chilean Andrés Allamand.
On March 25, Ecuador assumed the PPT of the Summit of Heads of State and Government. And during the next 18 months, the country will coordinate the execution of the calendar and the holding of ministerial conferences, sectoral meetings, forums and meetings.
The management will culminate with the holding of the XXIX Ibero-American Summit in Quito, in November 2024, which will be at the hands of the new government, which will be elected in August.
