Ecuador will rehabilitate 200 thousand hectares of cocoa fields thanks to the investment given by the United States
Ecuador will rehabilitate 200 thousand hectares of cocoa fields. This will be one of the objectives of the United States cooperation through a strengthening program in which it will invest $ 1.5 million.
Achieving an adequate marketing program to cover operating costs in cocoa production is the main concern of the Ecuadorian cocoa sector.
With the signing of this cooperation, more than 5,000 producers in the sector will benefit through the Maximizing Opportunities in Coffee and Cocoa in the Americas (MOCCA) program.
Ambassador J. Fitzpatrick added that his country will place $ 1.5 million to strengthen trade relations between the two countries, since Ecuador is the third largest supplier of cocoa to the US market.
Among the activities included in the program are the training of producers; the promotion of relations between buyers and sellers; research and dissemination; access to financing; service improvements by trade associations and support to national and regional platforms.
