Ecuadorean Automotive Guild requests revision of import quotas
A revision of import quotas and safeguards applied to the automotive sector was requested by the Association of Automotive Companies of Ecuador (AEADE for its Spanish acronym) to the Government through a letter.
The argument of the guild, which represents 104 companies, is that they have already contributed significantly to the reduction of imports.
“We put as a reference year 2010, and took into account 2015; we are talking about a reduction of about $ 800 million, and the projection for 2016 is around $ 1,200 million less than what was imported in 2010,” said Genaro Baldeon, executive president of the AEADE.
The union leader added that in May 2016, the trade surplus stood at $ 404 million and if compared to the previous year, the same month of May, trade deficit was of $ 1,116 million.
