Ecuadorian Army discovers three clandestine bases
After repelling a border attack against suspected guerrilla members, yesterday, the senior levels of the Fourth Division of the Army in the town of Coca, Orellana province, will offer today details of the military action that also discovered three clandestine bases of alleged guerrillas in the area of Real Cuembí, Putumayo canton (border with Colombia), in Sucumbios (Ecuador).
Yesterday the Joint Command of the Armed Forces said that the Operational Command No. 1 (CO-1) in Ecuadorian territory faced members of illegal armed groups of Colombia on a fight occurred last Saturday.
“The clash occurred at approximately 11:00, when the patrol encountered two men and a woman dressed in black uniforms and armed with M-4 rifles, who opened fire to them, the Ecuadorian soldiers repelled the attack, forcing the illegal’s to flee,” said the military in a statement that reported no deaths or injuries.
Shortly after the confrontation the Ecuadorian Military scouted the area and found two bases that could hold up to 20 people each, plus another guerrilla base that seemed to have been abandoned a few hours before, there they discovered warfare material.
