Ecuadorian Athletes Made History in Athens Special Olympic Games
The Ecuadorian delegation of athletes who traveled to the Summer Special Olympic Games Athens 2011, returned yesterday to the country with a record of medals in the history of Ecuador.
51 local athletes won a total of 69 medals in 8 different disciplines (road cycling, time trial, free-swimming -100 meters, parallel-exercise-gym, football, tennis-singles and double-weights – dead weight, athletics, etc.)
The Ecuadorian delegation won 25 gold, 25 silver and 19 bronze medals. There were more than 7000 athletes from 185 countries around the world closed yesterday the Summer Special Olympic Games Athens 2011.
The tricolor soccer team was crowned Olympic champions after winning their victory over Denmark (6-0) in the final match. They will play in November, the Copa America in Paraguay, and in 2013 they will play the world cup in Brazil. (BG)
