Ecuadorian films of 2014: a retrospective and futuristic look

The film Quito 2023, released in February, was not well received by critics, especially the script. The film shows a group of rebels of the year 2023 fighting a dictatorship in the style of the 70´s and 80´s. Cinemas filled just with 10,000 viewers, which is not a good sign for owners of movie theaters.

This dystopia was produced by César Izurieta (director) and Juan Fernando Moscoso (writer), who are fans of cinema and do not com from a formal film school.

The film Saudade was released in March, filling the theaters. This film was produced and written by Juan Carlos Donoso, who belongs to the world of filmmakers trained at Universidad San Francisco de Quito, and it took him 6 years to polish the script, unlike the 21 days it took Juan Fernando Moscoso to write the scipt of Quito 2023. It should be noted that Donoso collaborated with Iván Mera, producer of `No fall, no spring.

This film is about a group of friends who live in free agency during the financial crisis of 1999, which affects each one of the characters. It should be noted that the tape has been in 8 film festivals, and this week, the production team went to the Toulouse Latin American Film meeting.

There are still five releases this year, which aim to exceed the number of last year spectators .
