National pharmaceutical companies have declared war on the system used by the Government in the auction of medicines. They claim to have disadvantages in comparison to Chinese, Indian and Colombian companies.
Public agencies through a reverse auction expect to invest about 500 million dollars in the purchase of medicines for their programs, giving a “preference” of 17.5% for domestic firms, something rejected by the Ecuadorian Association of Pharmaceutical Companies (ALFE for its Spanish acronym), which requires 38% (as in 2011) given, according to union president Renato Carló, by the disadvantage in competing with China, India and even Colombia.
