Ecuadorian Political Party “PAIS” propose to increase maternity leave, up to one year.
The president of the Committee for Workers’ Rights, Mallerly Vásconez, has proposed to the National Assembly that the permission of maternity leave, that is currently up to 3 months, should be incremented up to one year, according to the recommendations provided by the Ecuadorian President, Rafael Correa.
“There could be two approaches; one could be 9 additional months to the current 3, in order to complete a whole year; or just 6 additional months. We will discuss the details at an Assembly meeting. I see that both options are good alternatives because we will allow women to stay with their children longer, without forcing them to consider resignation” said Vásconez, during the first discussion of the Organic Law for the Optimization of the Workday and Unemployment Insurance. The discussion of this topic was held this Monday in the National Assembly. (I)
