Ecuadorian University seeks foreign teachers
The Ecuadorian government initiated an international campaign to seek, in Mexico, Spain, Argentina and Brazil, specialized teachers in educational research and teaching. Additionally, it will need around 5000 mentors (teachers guides) to become part of the new National University of Education, based in Azogues, which plans to begin working next year.
Augusto Espinosa, the current Minister of Education, said the country’s teacher training is not satisfactory. “Preliminary reports of Ceaaces and in the best of the professional qualification to graduate is 5/10, this presents the gravity of the situation.“
Espinosa argues that, in tertiary education, the relevance of the initial teacher training is inadequate, both in disciplinary and methodologically, because there is also a gap between theory and practice, the lack of research is another problem. For this reason, foreign teachers are being looked for to increase the level of teaching.
Foreigners who are selected will go through a selection process. In http://educacion.gob.ec/formulario-de-aplicacion/ where they must fill out a registration form to participate in October in a competitive examination and merit for aggregates teachers and main teachers.
On the other hand, the vice president of the Association of Professors of Philosophy at the U. Central, regretted that this policy does not benefit the Ecuadorian professionals, adding that the new faculties there are very good teachers who can contribute to the new university. However, he admitted that of the 160 teachers who work in that Faculty, only 2 have Ph.D. because they have missed the training.
