Ecuador’s First Gay Marriage
Posted On 13 Dec 2010
The first Gay marriage in Ecuador was held on 10th of December, in the International Day of Human Rights.
The country does not accept gay marriage, but it was possible to attend a gay union for a while.
In the civil registry of Iñaquito the Ecuadorian Hugo Vera and the English Joey Hateley legalized their marriage. At the beginning there was confusion, but the judge married them because on the Identity Card of Hataley, he appears as a woman.
The couple asked not to make the wedding a media show, “We want that our case be understood as a step forward in the claim of GLBT community (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) of Ecuador.”
