The lawyer Eda Rivas today became  the first woman to assume the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, but before being appointed she  shall abandon her position in the portfolio of Justice and Human Rights in which she handled the petition for the humanitarian pardon to former President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000).

The new Chancellor, who will replace Rafael Roncagliolo, who resigned for health reasons, was linked to the Ministry of Justice since the beginning of the presidential term of Ollanta Humala, in 2011, as head of the Cabinet of advisers in that portfolio.

Now the lawyer of 61 years, will assume the Foreign Ministry while  the country is waiting for the ruling of the International Court of Justice at the Hague on the request for the establishment of maritime boundaries which were presented  by Peru against Chile in 2008.
