Cosios remained in a vegetative state since September 2011, that is, for seven years and seven months. His state of health was always delicate because several important organs showed affectations. Her mother, Vilma Pineda, took care of her son in her home, located in Algeria, south of Quito.
“According to school friends, on Thursday afternoon, Édison was on the campus grounds without participating in the protests. Served as Minister of the Interior, the current Assemblyman José Serrano. The policeman who fired the bomb was identified as Patricio Hernán Salazar, who in 2013 turned himself in to the Pichincha Judicial Police. It was never clarified whether the police officers entered the campus and fired on their own or if they received a higher order to do so.
Salazar, after a two-year judicial process, was found guilty of the injury produced in Cosíos and sentenced to five years in prison. Although he was also ordered to pay $ 100,000 as compensation for the family, the now retired policeman declared himself insolvent and did not pay that reparation.
Costing the care of the young person represented to the family more or less $ 2,000 monthly, money that was completed between the salary of the father of Cosíos and the bonus Joaquín Gallegos Lara. (I)
