Egas talks about the progress of the Ministry of Production
In an interview with Diario Expreso, Eduardo Egas, Production Minister, spoke about his plans as Minister of Production (Mipro).
Egas says that among the objectives is considerable progress in the industrialization process to “get out of that old pattern of exporting raw materials and primary state resources, and advance to higher manufactured value products. The export model is exhausted.”
He explains that industries can be developed “which are highly energy demanding; if this is cheap the product that uses a lot of energy must be sold and this leads to basic industries such as steel, aluminum, which are not feasible with expensive energy,”, and revealed they are working on the possibility of manufacturing planes for fumigation in Ecuador, “that would help the banana sectors to have efficient aircraft, of high security and with modern technology.”
The Mipro begins to handle the seed fund to finance innovative ideas from entrepreneurs or managers, and undoubtedly with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and developers that will need this fund. There are $ 20 million in a trust.
