“El Chapo” Guzman is recaptured in Mexico
Posted On 09 Jan 2016
The capture of drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was announced Friday afternoon. Six months ago he escaped from the Atiplano prison, and he will be brought to the same maximum security prison, reported the Attorney General of the Mexican Republic.
The announcement was made by the President of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto, through social networks and then through a message to the press. The recapture of Guzman, whose jailbreak occurred on July 11, was particularly humiliating for Pena Nieto and his government. After that date, few people believed he could be recaptured alive.
Guzman was located after a confrontation between suspects and the Navy in Los Mochis city, in his home state of Sinaloa, in the northwest of Mexico.
