El Niño continues with a strong and moderate magnitude, according to authorities. The presence of rainfall above the normal is estimated in the north, the interior and the center of the country, like Esmeraldas, Manabi, the Gulf of Guayaquil and other coastal areas in the island region. And for the rest of the coastal region rains around normal values are expected.
This forecast was released yesterday by Commander Humberto Gomez Proani, Director of the Oceanographic Institute of the Navy (INOCAR) and the National Committee for the Regional Study of El Niño (Erfen) at the end of the biweekly meeting of the Erfren and first of the year.
The current event has generated high temperatures in the sea and in the air, and a sea level rise, but has not generated higher rainfall than normal, said Gomez Proano.
