El Universo Newspaper Presents Two Judicial Resources

The Defense of El Universo newspaper insisted that the trial against the directors of the media must be made through the new National Court of Justice (CNJ for its Spanish acronym) that will be organized by the end of the month.

Joffre Campaña, the attorney that represents El Universo has presented two judicial resources to avoid that the current magistrates of the 2nd Criminal Chamber solve the case since only head judges can name temporary judges. Last Monday judges Luis Quiroz, Enrique Pacheco and Cesar Salinas were designated as temporary judges for the challenge.

The Criminal Chamber proposed Ramiro Roman and Leonidas Plaza Verduga as deputy judges for this trial. Roman commented that the case has not been assembled correctly and that it has judicial flaws.

The 2nd Criminal Chamber believes that Campaña is trying to delay the trial in its final stages with the many judicial resources.  Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa attorneys informed that the judges Quiroz, Pacheco and Salinas would solve the case. (AV)
