Electric cars will soon enter the country

The Renault-Nissan executives expect the government to define over the course of July the regulatory framework to begin the import of electric vehicles like the Twizy.
“We are in the final stage. Import taxes were eliminated, however, there´s a tribute that has not yet been lifted, which is the 12% VAT (Value Added Tax), procedures for homologation are also left,” said Nicholas Espinoza, Corporate President of Automotores y Anexos.
Espinosa added that they expect that these administrative procedures of the Government conclude in this month, so that first imports are ready for October.
The Twizy would be launched to the Ecuadorian market with a cost of between $ 16,000 and $ 18,000. The side doors open up. It measures 2.4 m long and 1.2 m wide. The car is charged in an average time of three hours with 220 volt outlets.
