Employers shall affiliate bricklayers
The Article 14 that rules labour relations in the construction sector, indicates that employers must register their employees in the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS).
Francisco Vacas, Minister for Labour Affairs, explained that there must also be a discontinuous eventually contract, which can last from 1 to 180 days.
The Government official added to the media that if a worker suffers an accident during his working hours, as breaking “his head or an arm and does not count with adherence to social security, the employer who hired him will assume medical costs and shall also pay a fine for not affiliating the worker”.
The document warns that the regulations will take effect from its subscription, without prejudice to its publication in the Official Gazette. In such a way that builders have 180 days to register each work or project in the Ministry of Labour Relations, as well as their employees.
