Environmental statistics are posted on the INEC website
The Ecuadorian Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC for its Spanish acronym ) yesterday introduced a new system of environmental information through its website. Here, 29 indicators of climatic reality of Ecuador will be displayed.
The implementation of this website was made with the support of the United Nations.
José Rosero, Director of INEC, said that this project seeks to promote quantifiable data for decision-making of public policy. In addition to data relating to conditions and climatic conditions; environmental resources, generation and management of waste and scrap; and environmental health.
One of the registered data in the system is that In Ecuador there are 95.7 million square meters of green areas, most are parks.
Being a new website, there are partial indicators. For example, there is only informaction of Quito´s air pollution levels. Rosero said that more information will be gradually included.
