EU concrete signing of association agreements and free trade
The Heads of State and Government of the European Union have signed this Friday the agreements of association and free trade with Georgia and Moldova, while Ukraine endorsed the economic chapters, since political pacts were signed in March.
The signing of the agreement took place at the Brussels summit, which gathered the leaders of the twenty-eight, and where also participated the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko; Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and Prime Minister of Moldova Iurie Leanca.
The EU has offered these agreements to six partners in Eastern Europe as a way to bring them closer to the European bloc through their progressive political association and economic integration in the European market in exchange for democratic and economic reform.
“Today is a historic day, perhaps the most important for my country after the declaration of independence,” said Poroshenko, who noted that the agreement provides “a whole new perspective” for his country, and the ability to contribute to its modernization.
