Eva Longoria Supports CARE
WASHINGTON, September 16. The Hispanic background actress, Eva Longoria presented the documentary “The Harvest” in the United States Congress, in which the desperate housewife participated as the producer. The documentary portrays the life of immigrant children who work at the harvests. A year ago, a law project to regulate farmer child work was presented.
Longoria went to the Congress with Roberto Romano, director of the documentary, and loved the fact that Californian Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard has done so many efforts to support this cause. Roybal-Allard is the main promoter of the Children Responsible Employment law project CARE.
This project was first proposed on September 16 in the year of 2009, and it intends to improve the conditions in which American kids work (they work on the field all day long with the sun on their faces.)
“Immigrant children difficulties have always been a topic of matter for me,” said Longoria who will premier another documentary about immigration. “It’s been an honor to use my voice to support Roberto Romano in his effort to create a sense of moral conscience in people” she added, the actress also mentioned “The Harvest” was “one of the most important” projects she has worked on.
Eva has become one of the most politically active celebrities, mostly after promoting a fund raise to encourage demands against the immigration law in Arizona.
“This film shows child labor in the fields, they often work in dangerous conditions, which is illegal in every other production area” commented Congresswoman Roybal-Allard about the documentary.
“The Harvest” tells the story of five families who travel from Florida to California and from Texas to Michigan; it shows how minors work on high temperatures (37 degrees) collecting fruits and vegetables. According to the documentary, about 400 thousand minors are involved in field work, most of them are Hispanic and their labor lasts 14 hours a day, eight months a year.
