Exclusive Interview With Vicente Taiano Regarding New Bill Amendment
In an exclusive interview to Ecuador Times, Attorney Vicente Taiano, Assemblyman of the Ecuadorian political party PRIAN, explained the current situation of the approach of a new amendment to the Organic Law of the Legislative Branch (LOFL) and the Organic Law on Elections.
The ruling party hopes to have approved by the Constitutional Court (CC) some of its legislative proposals because of the absence of a solid majority in the National Assembly.
The possibility that the opposition tomorrow may approve the amendment to the Organic Law of the Legislative Branch (LOFL), made the lawmakers of Alianza País (AP) justify an unconstitutional claim. The ruling party wants the Court to say whether this rule should pass by the Executive.
President Rafael Correa has already announced that he will defend his right to veto the bill. However, according to Fausto Cobo, member of Sociedad Patriotica Party (SP), it was Correa who gave green light to run that aspect of the law in the former “Congresillo.” So now it’s the time for Cordero and all the assembly members to defend the institutions of the legislature, he said
“As (lately) they had a large majority, they did not care about the dictatorship vote. Now the balance of power changes if they change the rules of the game,” he said.
Cynthia Viteri (member of Madera de Guerrero Political Movement) said it is almost sure that AP will search that path for this proposal due to the lack of votes.
