Exporters ask to unblock trade agreement with Europe

Posted On 06 Nov 2015

Fedexpor CEO Felipe Rivadeneira recommends that the negotiations for trade agreements with Europe must be pragmatic and asked the highest authorities of the country to unblock this lack of approval from Colombia and Peru in order to authorize the accession of Ecuador to the protocol.

The exporter recalled that European trade preferences expire next year, and according to the calculations if the green light is given by Colombia and Peru until December, we will hardly ratify the agreement in December 2016.

According to Rivadeneira, “the president must make arrangements with his counterparts of Colombia and Peru, so this authorization is achieved.”

The approval of Colombia and Peru is an absolutely necessary step to confirm the accession of Ecuador to the trade agreement with the European Union (EU).
