Exports are in the hands of women

Posted On 06 Mar 2017
The economy of the country is in their hands, international sales in three sectors total more than 5.041 billion dollars, according to the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE for its Spanish acronym). This is not a negligible figure concerning the International Women’s Day, which falls on Wednesday. Thus, the¡is article raises the importance of their work on exports.

The primary sector is shrimp, which is, in fact, second after traditional, non-oil products; Last year international sales left revenues of 2.58 billion dollars.
There are women are working in every company, why are they special in the shrimp, fish and flower industry? Because they represent the highest percentage in some cases and others, they are the ones that reign in the plants.

In the case of the shrimp farms, they are the ones that take the heads to the shrimp, peel them and pack them.
Jose Antonio Camposano, president of the National Chamber of Aquaculture, told Daily Expreso that women are the ones who work in the shrimp packers.
