Ivan León, manager of the company ZV Exportaciones, said that the situation in the Russian market has been complicated since late last year, due to the economic crisis in this country. Therefore this company has redirected the fate of its production of roses, previously 80% to Russia. Now exports 55% of that market.
Gonzálo Luzuriaga, business manager of Bella Rose and Rose Conection, explains that the ravages of the Russian crisis were felt in the market since November 2014 when the ruble was devalued to 80%, which meant that demand fell and Russian consumers start buying cheaper varieties of Kenya, Ethiopia and the southern Russian border.
The demand for Ecuadorian rose also shifted to shorter stems, therefore, less expensive. In the case of exports and Rose Bella Rosa Conection, there was a 20% loss in value compared to 2014.
