Faithful Catholics prepare for procession of Cristo del Consuelo

Catholic parishioners of all ages in Guayaquil, prepare for the traditional Good Friday procession, to be organized for the fifty-fourth time by the church of Cristo del Consuelo.

Procession:

This year will be held on March 29 and will maintain the same path of last year.

The walk will start at 07:00 from the temple located  Lizardo Garcia and the “A” streets, and will go to the Espiritu Santo Church (Azuay and Gallegos Lara) where the image of Cristo del Consuelo will remain until the evening.

At 19:00 it will be held the Sermon on the seven words and the descent. Subsequently, the image of Jesus will be placed in the grave and transferred to the Chapel of Virgen del Soto until the  next morning, culminating with the first day of procession.

On Saturday 30, at 8:00, the congregation will accompany the return of the image in the tomb to the church of Cristo del Consuelo.

Catholic Tradition:

Over the years, this procession has become one of the most massive of Guayaquil. Four archbishops have accompanied it: Cesar Mosquera, Bernardino Echeverría, Juan Larrea and Antonio Arregui, current Archbishop of the diocese.

Father Miguel Duarte, parish priest of Cristo del Consuelo for five years, said that next week it will be uninstalled the pilgrim image of Good Friday to clean it before the walk.

Thousands of Catholic faithful made the pilgrimage every year with a very singular faith, praying for family, work and health. Meanwhile, from Monday to Saturday, church groups and  faithful in general willpray the fifteen Stations of the Cross at 16:00.

 National Police,  Traffic Commission of Ecuador (CTE), Firefighters and Red Cross members will provide facilities for the procession.

Acts for Holy Week:

Chrism Mass: The Archbishop of Guayaquil, Antonio Arregui, will officiate the Chrism Mass at 10:00 on Holy Thursday, which brings together all the priests of the local Archdiocese.

Washing of the Feet: In the church of Cristo del Consuelo, this ritual will take place at 16:30, while the celebration at the Cathedral will be at 19:00. Then the adoration of The Blessed will be held.
