Farmers will sell canary and black beans to KFC
Beans Producers of Ibarra enjoy the support of 31 experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP).
Producers received a supply kit and certified seeds, the same that has a total cost of $ 374, plus an agricultural insurance with a $220 coverage.
Additionally, the MAGAP, through the Provincial Directorate of Imbabura, delivered 80 kits of the bean variety INIAP-381, called ‘Red of the Valley,’which is resistant to disease and features good cooking characteristics.
It is estimated that 7,000 hectares are planted with this legume. Until the end of the year it is expected the delivery of some 1,500 beans kits, of which a large part is exported to Colombia.
The National Seed Project for Strategic Agro chains, that linked the legally constituted organizations, and which supports the production processes, is involved in the commercialization.
In this regard, the Corporation of Legume Producers and Traders of the Sierra North Central Zone (Copcoles), made a sales agreement with the INT Food Services Corp company, whose commercial name is KFC, of about 65 tonnes of canary and black beans.
The beneficiaries will be more than 50 families of the Imbabura and Carchi provinces, who will be able to commercialize their production, according to the quality standards set by INT Food Services Corp.
