Irina Cabezas, president in charge of the National Assembly, sworn in today Fernando Cordero, candidate ofthe ruling party (Alianza País).

Fernando Cordero will be in charge of the assembly from the new period – July 31, 2011 to May 2013.

Of the two nominations for  the vice president office: neither Betty Amores, motion by Assembly member Lourdes Tibán, nor  Juan Carlos Cassinelli, by María Alejandra Vicuña were elected. There is still no one elected for that charge.

“We won! The traitors will be forgotten very easily,” Correa congratulated himself on his Twitter account, referring to the resignation last Thursday of lawmaker, Cesar Rodriguez, which further broke down the block of Alianza País.

President Correa warned yesterday of going into a crossed death (dissolution of the Legislature) in case the opposition won in order to block his plan of government. (AV)
