Fernando Cordero Was Chosen amid a Scandalous Process

At 12:05, official Fernando Cordero received again the title of President of the National Assembly. However on this occasion there were not speeches or respect regarding the process he undertook two years ago.

The election of Cordero was characterized by screams, complaints and reprimands from the legislators. It was nearly noon when the first vice president of the Assembly, Irina Cabezas (AP) ordered the vote. With tension the Assemblymen of both sides watched the screen that displayed the total votes. Cordero reached a total of 63 votes, while the opposition watched closely for Fernando Velez from Sociedad Patriotica political party, whose vote was a blank ballot paper, which caused serious contempt towards the process.

In the midst of such chaos Cabezas did not accept these results and they began to ballot again. Afterwards Cordero once again won with 60 votes against 59 of the opposition. Quickly the president took the oath and sat down on his chair. However the ranting of the opposition did not allow him to give his speech. (AV)
