Filmmaker Von Trier Was Expelled from Cannes Film Festival
Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier was declared unwelcome person by Cannes Festival, with immediate effect, by his statements that he had “some sympathy” to Hitler, said Thursday the Festival.
“I understand Hitler and I have some sympathy for him, but I think he was not a good guy,” said Lars von Trier in a Wednesday press conference following the presentation of his film “Melancholia,” which aims for a Palme d’Or .
“I think (Hitler) did bad things, yes, absolutely, but I can imagine him sitting in his bunker, in the end,” said the Danish filmmaker, Palme d’Or in 2000 for “Dancer in the Dark (“Dancer inthe Dark “) and Grand Jury Prize in 1996 for “Breaking the waves”.
Statements by Lars Von Trier created a stir in the newsroom and in the direction of Cannes, who asked him to apologize, what the filmmaker did hours later.
