Fishermen detected oil spill in Esmeraldas

Last Tuesday, the boats of  some fishermen who arrived after their workday at Sua in Atacames, brought the remains of an hydrocarbon substance, which seemed to be from the transmission lines of the oil company of Balao, and warned about a possible fuel leak.

The oil slick was about 30 miles of Esmeraldas and 23, of Sua.

Superintendent of Balao, Marcos Pavon, said that on May 17 at 23:57 occurred a fail  in one of the lines, which caused a leak  of five barrels of the material, but the next day, at  00: 10, the valves were closed to prevent the continued leakage of fuel oil No. 6. a fraction of the oil.

Due to this incident, the Ministry of Environment will monitor the clean-up, in charge of EP Petroecuador.
