Flights in Ecuador fail to recover the frequencies of before the pandemic
Almost a year after the health emergency due to the coronavirus, which led to the suspension of commercial flights in Ecuador for about three months, air frequencies have not reached pre-pandemic levels and airlines continue to adjust their operations.
The frequencies oscillate between 20% and 50% of what was had before the health emergency. In addition, there are international flights to Europe that operate with restrictions due to the policies of each country.
With a recovery in passenger traffic that is slower than expected, airlines continue to downsize their workforces, suspend routes or keep limited frequencies in an attempt to sustain themselves in a contracted market.
Latam Ecuador has cut staff working in airports and has decided to ‘outsource’ passenger service operations through certified companies. The firm has indicated that even when it sees positive signs towards recovery, the operation still does not exceed 50% in relation to the pre-pandemic period. Estimate an equally slow scenario for the next few months.
