They took the request seriously. The government of Lenin Moreno insists that “the private sector will be the engine of the economy,” and four transnationals do not waste time.
The authorities, for their part, show the same interest. Ministers, secretaries and even President Moreno himself meet with business people that want to know the benefits promised by the new Administration. The dialogues are, so far, the only concrete thing.
But entrepreneurs expect the implementation of incentives and reforms to facilitate investment in the coming months.
It is a moment of opportunity. The official opening and crude oil prices are well seen by Baker Hughes, a GE company. The giant, a result of the merger of two companies, wants to inject capital into Ecuador.
Mondeléz International, the owner of brands like Oreo, Royal, and Konitos, hopes to conquer new markets.
Arcos Dorados works in two ways. The company that operates the McDonald’s franchise announced that it would increase its investment in the country and thus, create sources of employment. Vice president of Arcos Dorados Marlene Fernandez held separate meetings with the ministries of Industry and Labor.
Ecuador is well regarded by Copa airlines. Its president, Pedro Heilbron, said that the country is important in the expansion process of the company. (I)
