Developing countries meeting at the summit of the G77 + China, which concluded on Sunday in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, charted a new roadmap for a more just world order and claimed that the UN keep as a global priority the goal of eradicating hunger and poverty by 2030.
The statement refers to the new commitments against inequality in the world, development with environmental protection and sovereignty of natural resources, among other things, that were read and put to consideration of group members.
Likewise, the document urges comprehensive reform of the Security Council, and claims that the fight against poverty must continue to be central objective of the development agenda after 2015 when the Millennium Development Goals set by the UN must be achieved.
“We are working to develop a universal sustainable development agenda to after 2015 and vigor and leadership of the Group of 77 and China are essential,” said UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, during the meeting.
