Ecuadornews:
Gaby Espinosa and her brother Roberto took more than an hour to leave the Malecon Escénico of El Murcielago beach in Manta. Both were the center of attention after swimming, running and cycling 70.3 miles at the Ironman, the extreme triathlon competition held last Sunday.
“It does not matter what disability you have because motivation is the most important,” says the young graphic design student who also paints in a workshop for people with disabilities called Sensibilizarte. Her brother is a freelance photographer.
It was precisely Roberto who planned this journey. The idea of competing in Manta’s Ironman 70.3 arose three months ago. Before telling Gaby and her family about the competition, he found out if he could participate with her sister. “I had seen people doing this, it was an enormous motivation for us,” said Roberto, who at 8 began to practice mountain biking.
