Chiriboga-impugnación-caso-Mery-Zamora

The prosecutor Galo Chiriboga announced that once concluded the study of the resolution text in the Mery Zamora case, who is absolved of the crime of sabotage and terrorism, the Attorney General will pose an extraordinary action protection before the Constitutional Court (CC) to challenge the judgment.

The judges of the Criminal Chamber of the National Court of Justice (CNJ), chaired by Johnny Ayluardo unanimously adopted the decision weeks ago.

Chiriboga did not specify the date for the filing of the challenge, but insisted that the case can be taken to the CC.

Given the challenges to the judgment made by President Rafael Correa, he said: “If the president had not said anything, we surely would have done the same.”

In his opinion, the judgment of the Criminal Court departed from the resolutions adopted by two lower courts, which sentenced Zamora to the sentence of eight years imprisonment.
