Gangs that adulterate medicines have links with foreign networks
Ecuadornews:
Investigations have determined that for the past three years international criminal networks have provided specialized equipment for the production of pills, syrups, creams, and ampoules. Also, they provide local bands with chemical inputs to mix them with expired drugs and introduce them into the market as if they were legal.
Investigators at the prosecutor’s office say that this illicit business is “highly lucrative” because the networks produce medicines for cancer, gastritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, weight reduction, sexual stimulants, vitamins for children and even abortifacient pills. In this way, a drug whose cost of production is USD 0.10 can be easily commercialized in popular sectors. (I)
