GLBT groups requested the removal of political rights to Pastor Zavala

GLBTI representatives rejected the statements of Nelson Zavala, former presidential candidate for the PRE political party
GLBT Representatives and representatives of the National Electoral Council (CNE) requested, by a hearing in the Electoral Tribunal, to sanction Nelson Zavala, former presidential candidate for the Roldosista Ecuatoriano Party (PRE).
GLBT’s defense demanded the maximum penalty by suspending Zavala’s political rights, a fine of 10 basic unified salaries ($3,190) and warned with a criminal trial for the crime of hate for his homophobic and discriminatory expressions during his election campaign that violated the rights stipulated in the constitution.
According to the CNE, the former candidate defied a resolution issued last January, where he was required to refrain from making comments that affect the citizens’ group.
Zavala’s defense replied that the statements of the evangelical pastor “never intended to harm or affect the rights of people with a different sexual orientation.”
Next Monday, the Court will issue its ruling.
