Google Buys Zagat

Google has announced on its blog the purchase of Zagat guides with recommendations on hotels, shops, restaurants, movies and services in the U.S. that have more than 10 million customer ratings and professionals around the world.
The price that Google paid for Zagat has not been made public, but it was valued at $200 million in 2008, has offices in New York as well as in the UK, Japan and Canada.
Google hopes to provide a geolocation-based searches on the Internet, an emerging sector in which it will have to compete with Facebook Places and Foursquare.
