Google cuts down services to improve Google +
Posted On 17 Oct 2011
Google has announced in a statement the closure of several services following the launch of Google +. The Internet company hopes to enhance its social network.
The Buzz social network will be the first to be axed. Buzz disappears because of Internet users’ indifference. The closing will occur in the coming weeks. Buzz members can view their content posted on their Google profile, and download them with Takeout.
Google will also close Code Search, a search engine for open source creations, on January 15. On the same day, Google will say goodbye to the Finnish version of microblogs that sought to take Twitter’s throne, Jaiku.
iGoogle and The University Research Program will also be disabled in January, joining the anticipated closure of Google Labs, opened with the intention of allowing test ideas and prototypes.
