Government officials will attend the IACHR to address the Jimenez case
The Procurator Diego Garcia and Justice Minister, Ledy Zúñiga, are traveling today to San José de Costa Rica to meet up tomorrow with members of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IDH-Court), to discuss the situation of the Sarayaku people.
Garcia said he expects to exhibit how the Ecuadorian State has complied with the judgment in favor of the Kichwa people of Sarayaku and prevent that the Court order provisional measures before recent events that occurred in Sarayaku.
Even though, the Ecuadorian delegation has no scheduled an appointment with the Commission within its 103rd regular session period, which runs from yesterday, Garcia said in an interview that they will be welcomed by requirement of the State.
“We want to inform (to the Court) what is happening, what the state thinks on the allegations of Sarayaku and prevent that at any given time interim measures could be requested, involving the IDH-Court under the assumption that the government would be attacking against decisions of the judgment, which is not happening now,” Garcia said.
