Government prepares response to Human Rights Watch report
Posted On 23 Oct 2014
The Minister of Justice, Ledy Zúñiga, announced on October 22 that the government is preparing a response to the Human Rights Watch (HRW) organization, to clarify that there was no torture against the students arrested in protests of last September, as indicated by the NGO in a report.
Zúñiga said that the regime rejects the document mainly for its origin, as the representative of the NGO José Manuel Vivanco “responds to the interest of generating and getting the international image of our country eroded.”
He also indicated that the sources cited in the report are “general, vague and referentials” and that speaks of witnesses and lawyers, but without mentioning names, the dates of the interviews with the alleged victims are neither included.
